Sunday 24 September 2000
Welcome to our family and guests.  We extend a friendly Christian welcome and trust that you are encouraged and uplifted as you worship with us today.

I will sacrifice a thank offering to you and call on the name of the Lord.
I will fulfil my vows to the Lord in the presence of all his people.  Psalm 116:17

Fear not! - Trust in God...

Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
in all your ways acknowledge Him,
and He will make your paths straight.  Proverbs 3:5

"Though it cost all you have, get understanding." -- Proverbs 4:7

Jimmy's mother said, "Get up, it's time to go to school."  He didn't answer.  Again she said, "Get up, it's time to go to school."  He said, "I am not going anymore, there are 1500 children in that school and they all hate me."  Sharply she replied, "You've got to go to school!"  "I can't", he said, "even the teachers hate me!  Give me one good reason why I should have to go through that misery?"  Looking him in the eye his mother said, "I'll give you two: first, you are 42 years of age, and second - you're the Principal!"

You may smile, but life is a school, a never ending education.  Pablo Casals, the great cellist, was asked why at 85 he still practised five hours a day.  He replied, "Because I think I'm getting better."  Wow!  What an attitude!  Peter said, "Grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord" (2 Peter 3:18).  The toughest decision you'll ever make is accepting responsibility for what you are - and what you can be!

Your mistakes are not the issue, but what you learn from them is.  Built into every painful experience is the wisdom to build a better future.  All you need is the right teacher and text book.  When God found Gideon, he was hiding in a cave thinking, "There's nothing anybody can do."  God showed him that he wasn't a captive to the Midianites but to his own inferiority, fear and opinions of those around him.  God had the power and the plan to do it; all He needed was Gideon to open his heart and co-operate, and the rest is history.  God has things he wants to teach you.  The question is - will you let Him?

Courage is not the absense of fear, but the conquest of it.

More on this week's theme:
"Fear not!  For I am with you.  I have redeemed you and called you by name;
you are Mine.
When you pass through the waters, I will be with you;
and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you.
When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned;
the flames will not set you ablaze.
For I am the Lord your God, the Holy one of Israel, your Saviour." -- Isaiah 43:1-3

* Don't be afraid to go out on a limb.  That's where the fruit is.
* If you are not afraid to face the music, you may someday lead the band.
* Fear is the dark room where negatives are developed.
* Both faith and fear sail in the harbour of your mind, but only faith should be allowed to anchor.

* Fear not, Abram.  I am your shield, your very special reward. Genesis 15:1
* Fear not, for I am with you; I will bless you and increase the number of your descendants for the sake of my servant Abraham. Genesis 26:24
* Fear not, stand firm and you will see the deliverance the Lord will bring you today... The Lord will fight for you; you need only to be still. Exodus 14:13.
* Fear not, for the Lord your God goes with you; He will never leave you nor forsake you. Deuteronomy 31:6 & 8.

Church Education Day
Last week was "Church Education Day" when we celebrated Christianity taught in schools throughout N.Z.  It was asked that you pray for Colleen as school chaplain for Parklands, for Gweneth, Carolyn and Johanna for their Bible in School sessions, to Paul with the "After School Programme" and to Margaret and David, J. Riddell, Pauline and Lesley as they take God's love into their workplace.

Family Notices
We wish to express our sympathy to Jill and Hinemaia R. in the sad loss of a father and grandfather, and to G. Trewavas in the loss of her sister.  Also to B. Mister's family as we pray that God will give them peace and strength.

International Prayer Day
Suggested prayer items:
Each 25th and 26th of the month is set aside for the Motueka churches to combine and cover the "24 hours for the nation" in prayer.
All are welcome to spend any part of this time in prayer for the country.

Psalm 89:14-18:
Righteousness and justice are the foundation of your throne;
love and faithfulness go before you.
Blessed are those who have learned to acclaim you,
who walk in the light of your presence, O Lord.
They rejoice in your name all day long;
they exalt in your righteousness.
For you are their glory and strength,
and by your favour you exalt your horn.
Indeed, our shield belongs to the Lord,
our king to the Holy One of Israel.

Items to consider in prayer:
* That the above prayer (Psalm) and blessings will be bestowed upon our country.
* As we affirm our God is a God of righteousness and justice, pray that N.Z. will become more and more where Godly principles prevail.
* Those connected to our justice system and for the prisoners, that the work of the Holy Spirit will continue in their lives.
* That New Zealand will play the role that God has for us in the world scene and that our leaders will not succumb to the dictates of others.
* Those churches who are involved in church conferences this month, that they will know the will of the Lord for their churches, and that they and all churches will receive fresh vision as they go into the coming year.
* Remember others who are praying throughout New Zealand and the part that God has given them, that they will be inspired by the Holy Spirit.  Pray for their protection.
* That this vision of National Prayer will spread throughout N.Z.
* The Prime Minister, the Government including members of the opposition, for fresh vision, strength, wisdom, good health and encouragement.
* Unity amongst the people of the nation.
* Other people with areas of responsibility including the Mayor and Council Leaders, School Principals, Teachers, Doctors, Nurses.
* Church Leaders in N.Z. and in your own area and for unity amongst the churches.
* Teachers of Bible in Schools plus School Chaplaincy.
* Those who have the responsibility of children over the holidays, parents, grandparents, caregivers etc.
* The teenagers in N.Z.
* Bring the pain, injustice and suffering of our country before the Lord.
* Those loosing the power of their minds through illness and degeneration; for their families of those who care for them.
* Your own family and friends, and those you know, for fresh vision, strength, wisdom, good health and encouragement.
