Sunday 15 October 2000
Welcome to our Father's House.  We trust you find this a great time of sharing together around the Lord's Table and in His Word, and enjoying fellowship with the Saints.  If we can assist you today please make your request known to the door stewards or one of the Elders.  If you have no church home and you wish to consider this as: "the place of the planting of the Lord" then please see Fred King, our church co-ordinator.

Fear the Lord! == Announcing!
The Lord's love is with those who fear him.  Psalm 103:17

From the Word: Psalm 103. Of David.
Praise the Lord, O my soul; all my inmost being, praise His Holy name.
Praise the Lord, O my soul and forget not all his benefits.
He forgives all my sins and heals all my diseases;
he redeems my life from the pit and crowns me with love and compassion.
He satisfies my desires with good things,
so that my youth is renewed like the eagle's,
The Lord works righteousness and justice for all the oppressed.
The Lord is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love.
He will not always accuse, nor will he harbour his anger forever;
he does not treat us as our sins deserve, or repay us according to our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his love for those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.
As a father has compassion on his children,
so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him;
But from everlasting to everlasting, the Lord's love is with those who fear him,
and righteousness with their children's children --
with those who keep his covenant and remember to obey his precepts.
The Lord has established his throne in heaven,
and his kingdom rules over all.
Praise the Lord all you angels,
you mighty ones who do his bidding, who obey his word.
Praise the Lord, all his heavenly hosts, you his servants who do his will.
Praise the Lord, all his works everywhere in his dominion.
Praise the Lord, O my soul.

Christians have lost all fear of death.  Since, therefore, the fear of death is the mother of all fear, when it has been destroyed, all other forms of fear are thereby vanquished.
- John Bonnell

Have you ever taken your fears to God, got the horizons of Eternity about them, looked at them in the light of His love and grace?
- R. McCracken

He who fears God need fear nothing else and he who fears not God needs to fear everything else.
- Anon.

Fear knocked at the door.  Faith answered.  No one was there.

Welcome to our family and guests.  We extend a friendly Christian welcome and trust that you are encouraged and uplifted as you worship with us today.

I will sacrifice a thank offering to you and call on the name of the Lord.

Mrs. E. Bourne
was called to her heavenly home on Tuesday 10th October after 100 years and 3 months of faithful and devoted service to our Lord Jesus.  On her 100th birthday this year a small group from our church were present; in conversation she said "I don't know why the Lord has kept me here so long, it must be because He has more people for me to witness to."
On 28th June 1992 Mrs. Bourne played a leading role at the opening of our new church building by cutting the cake.  Mrs. Bourne was welcomed into the church on 27th February 1977 and was a very faithful member of the fellowship, being the oldest living member.  In later years she spent approx. 5 years at the Woodlands resthome then, for family reasons, moved to Green Gables in Nelson for the last years of her life.

More on the Fear of God
The only sure way to take fear out of living is to keep a respectful fear of God in our lives, which means to maintain a reverent attitude towards His place and influence in the scheme of things.  This brand of fear is a healthy ingredient, a deterrent to want, a spur to courage and confidence, an insurance against loss, a source of comfort and understanding at any age.
