Sunday 3 December 2000
Welcome to our Father's House.  We trust you find this a great time of sharing together around the Lord's Table and in His Word, and enjoying fellowship with the Saints.  If we can assist you today please make your request known to the door stewards or one of the Elders.  If you have no church home and you wish to consider this as: "the place of the planting of the Lord" then please see Fred King, our church co-ordinator.

From the Word: Others Being Important
"Regard one another as more important." -- Philippians 2:3

Here are some words that should keep you on your toes. - and on your knees:  Listen, "Do nothing from selfish or empty conceit, but with humility of mind let each of you regard one another as more important than himself; do not merely look out for your own personal interests, but also for the interest of others.
Have this attitude in yourselves which was also in Christ Jesus." (Phil. 2:3-5).
That's how Jesus lived, and you should strive to live that way too.  I say "strive" because it runs contrary to all that's in your carnal nature.  Just because you were gracious yesterday is no guarantee you'll be the same today.

Grace is like a garment - you've got to practise putting it on every morning.
You say, "But how can I live like that?"  By deciding to put others first!  By looking for ways to support them and encourage them.  Everybody you'll meet today is fighting a battle of some kind, and you may be the only person capable of speaking "a healing word" to them (Proverbs 16:24).  Don't let them down!
Humility of mind is an attitude!  It determines ahead of time, "I care about those around me.  I don't always have to be first.  I'm going to let someone else win for a change."
It prays, 'Lord help me to curb my fierce competitive tendencies and turn that energy into loving and lifting at least one other person today.  Show me how You would do it, then help me to do it in Your name.  Amen.'

Announcing... Romans 12: 1 & 2
