Sunday 21 October 2001
Welcome to our Father's House.  We trust you find this a great time of sharing together around the Lord's Table and in His Word, and enjoying fellowship with the Saints.  If we can assist you today please make your request known to the door stewards or one of the Elders.  If you have no church home and you wish to consider this as: "the place of the planting of the Lord" then please see Fred King, our church co-ordinator.

From the Word.  Psalm 91
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.
I will say to the Lord, "He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust"
Surely He will save you from the fowler's snare and from deadly pestilence.
He will cover you with his feathers; and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart.
You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday.
A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you.
You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked.
If you make the Most High your dwelling - even the Lord who is my refuge - then no harm will befall you, no disaster will come near your tent.
For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways. They will lift you up in their hands so that you will not strike your foot against a stone.
You will tread upon the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent.
"Because he loves me", says the Lord, "I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honour him.
With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation."

Our greatest enemies are not wild beasts or deadly germs but fears that paralyse thought, poison the mind and destroy character.  Our only protection against fear is faith.
- Ryllis Goslin Lynip from Great Ideas of the Bible

Fear actually is related to love, as are all passions.  Fear is the emotion that rises in us when there is a danger facing something or someone that we love, (such as) our good name, our children, our fortune.  The catalogue of fears is the catalogue of loves.  Love is an anticipation for an object; fear is flight from it.
- Bishop Fulton J. Sheen from Life is worth living

God planted fear in the soul as surely as he planted hope or courage. -- It is a kind of bell or gong which rings the mind into quick life and avoidance on the approach of danger. -- It is the soul's signal for rallying.
- Henry Ward Beecher
