Sunday 6 January 2002

374 High St., Motueka.
Welcome to the New year!

Welcome to our Father's House.  We trust you find this a great time of sharing together around the Lord's Table, in His Word, and enjoying fellowship with the Saints.  If we can assist you today please make your request known to the door stewards or one of the Elders.  If you have no church home and you wish to consider this as: "the place of the planting of the Lord" please see Fred King, our Church co-ordinator.

A scripture shared at the funeral of Jack S.  This Psalm fell open in his Bible with his book mark showing where he was reading during this last week.      Psalm 139:

v 1 O Lord, you have searched me and you know me.
You know when I sit and when I rise; you perceive my thoughts from afar.
You discern my going out and my lying down;
You are familiar with all my ways.
Before a word is on my tongue you know it completely, O Lord.

v 5 You hem me in behind and before, you have laid your hand upon me
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me, too lofty for me to attain.

v 7 Where can I go from your Spirit?  Where can I flee from your presence?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there.
If I make my bed in the depths, you are there.
If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea,
Even there your hand will guide me, your right hand will hold me fast.....

v 17 How precious to me are your thoughts, O God!  How vast is the sum of them!
Were I to count them, they would out number the grains of sand.
When I awake, I am still with you.

Jesus blesses the little children.

People were bringing their little children to Jesus to have him touch them, but the disciples rebuked them.  When Jesus saw this he was indignant.  He said to them, "Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these.  I tell you the truth, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it. And he took the children in his arms, put his hands on them and blessed them.   -- Mark 10:13

He took a little child and had him stand among them.  Taking him in his arms he said to them,
"Whoever welcomes one of these little children in my name welcomes me, and whoever welcomes me, does not welcome me, but the one who sent me."  -- Mark 9:36

Thankyou to all those who helped with food over the Christmas period.  Many parcels were delivered from the church.

If you are thinking of giving to the 'Food Bank' over the next few days they will still be delighted to receive your donations.

A basket will be at the back of the church for these items.  Thankyou.

Please pray especially for:
* Margaret C. who has just been informed that the cancer has returned, pray for Margaret and the doctors as they meet together on the 3rd January to make decisions for new treatment, and pray for strength and healing as she begins to look towards Chemotherapy.
* Audrey and family as they face the loss of Jack S. who died on Sunday 30th December.  Audrey, we give you our love and support and our sympathy in the loss of your husband and friend.  We know he is in the loving arms of Jesus and we pray for you for strength and peace.  Jack's funeral was held on Friday 4th Jan here, at the Motueka Church of Christ.  "Safe in the arms of Jesus."
Jack, we appreciate your fine witness and role model which has been an inspiration to many.  We know you loved your God by your life and joy you shared so freely.

* Visits, phone calls etc., to these two will be very welcome.

* For Garfield Todd as he too begins to deal with the loss of Grace who died on the 30th December also.  Grace and Garfield work on our Mission Fields in Zimbabwe and she was responsible for establishing many primary Schools in Dadaya.  She was also instrumental in writing and establishing education programmes which are still in use in many of their schools today.  Grace's funeral will be held on the 13th January at Dadaya.
